21st Annual AfroSolo Arts Festival

August 2-9, 2014

Join the AfroSolo Theatre Company for the 21st Annual AfroSolo Arts Festival.  Our arts festival is focused on engaging the African American community here in San Francisco to empower themselves.  Through art performances, career fairs, health seminars, and community engagement, AfroSolo is living its mission to nurture the African American community through the use of art.  This year’s festival is centered around keeping young Black men and boys out of the juvenile system.

Act 1 

Tribute to Paul Robeson

  • August 2nd at 1-3PM at Yerba Buena Gardens – Mission St. (between 3rd and 4th St.), San Francisco, CA 94103
  • Tribute to Paul Robeson by Anthony Brown and pianist Dr. Carl Blake

Act 2 

Community Health Fair 10-1PM

Project Empowerment – Succeeding Against the Odds

  • Workshops to serve and support young Black men and boys from entering the juvenile system

          Scene 1 – Day of Empowerment 12-6PM at African American Culture Complex

  • Workshops and panels for job, internship, and apprentice opportunities
  • Inspirational and upbeat day to plan for a future career

          Scene 2 – Letters to My Younger Brother

  • Compilation of letters written from Black men to younger Black men and boys with advice on how to succeed from youth to adulthood
  • Book will be published in the fall

          Scene 3 – Great Performances from Young Black Men and Boys

  • Theater, music, and dance

Act 4

Black Voices Series

  • Performances by 4 extraordinary performers that give voice to the black experience

Act 5

Workshops for Developing Your Arts Organization

  • Solo performance workshop
  • Learn how to market yourself and expand your performing arts career
